Russ Kurzawski, founder and owner of Star Metal Fluids, is not a degreed chemist. You wouldn’t know it though. Russ learned about metalworking fluids, compounds and cleaners through extensive reading, on-the-job learning, and vendor sponsored in-depth training. Russ learned metalworking fluids and chemicals so well that he is a guest lecturer for a masters class at Arizona State University, and he has taught classes at the Phoenix Regional vocational school  and Gateway Community College, in Phoenix,  Arizona.

This story is about a small machine shop that started out with humble beginnings and great ideas which turned into a highly successful “production ready job shop” with best in class machines, equipment and employees.  Apex Engineering was formed 6 years ago with 3 partners, two of whom have built the business over the past 6 years, including Travis Zollinger and Brian Black. Just recently they added a 3rd partner, Gordon Baker, whom both have worked with over the past years.  The 3 partners bring over 40 years of experience in the industry to the table.

RAM Company was founded in 1975 by Raymond and Melzie Ganowsky.  Ray had previously obtained his degree as aeronautical engineer and had worked for a number of companies where he designed and developed many products.  He and Melzie eventually moved to St. George, Utah to begin their dream of ownership, and RAM Company was born.  Kevin Ganowsky, Ray and Melzie’s son, has worked in the business from the beginning, and now is the vice president and general manager, handling much of the daily responsibilities of the company.
