TEMPERATURE PROCESSING

Custom Heat Treating

Temperature Processing resides on a 200 acre farm in Longmont, Colorado amidst dogs, chicken, and other animals. But don’t be fooled by the charming rural environment. Within the buildings that house Temperature Processing you will encounter some very high technology metallurgical and heat treating operations.

The full service metallurgy lab offers customers comprehensive on-site instrumentation. Temperature Processing’s lab services include sample preparation, metallurgical examination, micro-hardness testing, Rockwell and Brinell hardness testing, and tensile testing. The company performs certified, aerospace, nuclear and mil spec heat treating.

President Eric Engelhard graduated from the Colorado School of Mines with a degree in metallurgy and has more than 20 years of hands-on experience in heat treating and process manufacturing. He worked as a process engineer in the aerospace industry before assuming operations at Temperature Processing.
The company, in its 69th year, is family owned and operated. It was founded by Eric’s grandfather, who ran operations in Colorado, New Jersey and New York. Grandpa was an inventor, and he designed and patented pyrometric equipment. A pyrometer is a non-contacting device that intercepts and measures thermal radiation and can be used to determine the temperature of an object’s surface. The pyrometric equipment Eric’s grandfather manufactured many years ago can still be found in Temperature Processing’s facility!
“We are best known for heat treating “delicate” critical parts, where it is imperative to get it done right the first time”, Eric said. “We call our service “white glove handling – when a customer brings us a diamond, we treat it like a diamond. Unlike a large heat treating shop, we have small furnaces and we don’t mix customers parts in with other customers”.

Diversification

The company prides itself on quick turnaround times, and they offer delivery and pick-up throughout the Denver metropolitan area. “Every customer’s job is documented, with detailed records of heating and quenching cycles. We maintain these records for ten years”, Eric said.
“We are truly a custom heat treating company, our furnaces can be charged with a variety of gases, including dry or wet hydrogen, nitrogen, argon, ammonia, carbon dioxide, or any other gas that can be bottled, including custom blends and exotic gases”.
The company offers dry-gas atmospheres of -80o F and below and clean handling to minimize discoloration and eliminate contaminants.  All parts are returned to customers in pristine condition.
They offer a wide range of treatment temperatures, with a full suite of testing protocols for virtually any metal, in purified atmospheres from -320o F to 2200o F.
With a degreed and highly experienced metallurgist, Temperature Processing assists it customers in selecting the appropriate materials and heat treatments to ensure that parts exhibit the hardness, strength, dimensional stability, and finish that their application demands.
Customers receive guidance throughout all phases of design and development, from rough sketches through installation and testing.
Temperature Processing is your custom heat treating source when your part requires that the job is done right the first time. “We save our customers significant amounts of money by minimizing the need for post-heat-treatment machining and finishing”, Eric said.
Visit the newly revamped website at tpcolorado.com or contact this highly experienced heat treating company at 303-772-0250. You will not be disappointed.

“Temperature Processing’s strongest asset is their vast experience. You have four generations of heat treaters there. It’s a level of expertise you just don’t find at other heat-treat shops. Eric has a degree in metallurgical engineering and really knows what he is doing.
Temperature Processing is one of the primary vendors for Ball Aerospace, Boulder.
Eric easily meets our often stringent requirements in terms of materials stability, certification, cycling, and things like that. He understands how critical our parts are – that we are launching vehicles into space.
Temperature Processing can provide just about any kind of atmosphere in any kind of furnace.”
Glenn, Ball Aerospace

“We produce precision machined parts for aerospace and medical applications that often require extensive cryogenic cycling. Temperature Processing is one of our top ten vendors; an A-Plus for sure.
Eric advises us on our product designs as they relate to heat treating. His heat treatments have allowed us to maintain tolerances of less than 5 microns on our medical products fabricated from a specialized material called PEEK.
Our company has worked with them for 24 years. Temperature Processing’s service is phenomenal in regard to creativity, flexibility and on-time delivery.”
Heidi, Faustson Tools

“Temperature Processing is always ready to turn a job for me and they are very time conscious. Their price structure is dependable and consistent. There are no surprises. Even on last-minute jobs, they find a way to meet our schedule.
They burn out manifolds for me. The cavities of the molds are always thoroughly burned out and returned in mint condition. Always pristine and clean. Eric’s knowledge of metallurgy is irreplaceable.”
Steve, Western Texturing

“I’ve used Eric Engelhard and Temperature Processing since the mid-1980s for heat treating critical parts for Rover Tracks, a company that fabricates off-the-road parts and accessories for Land Rovers, and also for my other company, PTA Corporation.
PTA manufactures plastic parts for the medical, high-tech and business equipment industries. We use very sophisticated and expensive plastic injection molds during manufacturing, which Eric keeps clean for us.
The heat treating is top notch. Parts are returned in a timely manner with a pristine finish. There’s never any need for secondary finishing after heat treating; jobs are done right the first time.
Temperature Processing has significantly improved the wear characteristic of our molds and parts. They additionally perform metallurgical analyses and hardness tests and advise us on material selection when we design a new product.
Temperature Processing is all about high quality, doing the job right, and getting things done on time.”
Keith, Rover Tracks, PTA Corporation

“I’ve been using Eric’s services for the last 15 years. The quality and consistency of his work is 100 percent, and his customer service even exceeds that. He follows up jobs with a call to make sure everything meets our specifications.
We use him between two and five times every month. His prices are reasonable and he is always very accommodating. Turnaround time is exceptional.
Eric has a good grasp of industry trends, whether you’re dealing with plastics or medical steel. He works hard to ensure the customer’s needs are met.”
Barry, Mountainside Health

Walter M. Schirra Jr. was one of the original seven astronauts and the only man to fly in the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo space programs.
The quick-witted Navy captain, who was known as Wally, was the fifth American in space at a time when NASA’s manned space program was young and untested. His Oct. 3, 1962, Mercury flight, which lasted 9 hours, 13 minutes and 11 seconds, was considered textbook-perfect.
